Jewellery is one of the most personal gifts there is, which is exactly why choosing it can feel daunting. A little quiet observation does most of the work.
Look at what they already wear
- Metal: do they reach for yellow gold, white gold or silver? Match it, and the new piece will join their everyday rotation.
- Scale: delicate and fine, or bold and sculptural? Stay close to what they choose for themselves.
- Habits: someone who works with their hands may prefer earrings or a pendant to a ring.
- Ears: are they pierced? Check before choosing earrings.
If you don’t know their size
Necklaces, pendants, earrings and adjustable bracelets are the safest choices when you cannot ask. If your heart is set on a ring, borrow one they wear on the right finger and follow our ring size guide, or choose a style that can be resized later.
Make it mean something
- A birthstone for their month, or for the month of a shared memory.
- A stone with a story: sapphire is traditionally linked with loyalty and emerald with renewal, or simply choose the colour of a favourite place.
- An occasion piece that marks a milestone: a graduation, a new home, a first child.
The details
Keep the receipt and any certificate together, so the piece can be looked after properly. Add a handwritten note: the piece will be treasured, and so will the words. If you would like help choosing, tell us about them. We are happy to make suggestions within any budget.
